The Building Department enforces the Commonwealth of Massachusetts State Building, Plumbing & Gas, and Mechanical Codes, Architectural Access Board Regulations, as well as the City of Medford Zoning Ordinance. The staff issues permits for new construction as well as additions, alterations and renovations of existing buildings and structures. This office is also responsible for performing on-site inspections of all construction projects, as well as investigating zoning complaints. Periodic inspections are performed of multi-family dwellings, restaurants, schools, religious institutions and certain other places of public assembly. This office also levies fines and prosecutes when necessary to obtain compliance with all applicable codes and ordnances.
