THIS DEPARTMENT HELPS MAINTAIN THE SAFETY AND BEAUTY OF MEDFORD
The Highway Division is responsible for the maintenance of approximately 120 curb miles of city accepted streets and roads. This includes, asphalt patching, street sweeping, catch basin cleaning and rebuilding, street signs, pavement markings and trash control in all squares. Sidewalk replacements are done on a priority basis subject to funding.
Main roads are swept on a daily basis (weather permitting). All streets are swept during a spring and fall ‘Clean-Sweep’. We request that the day of sweeping all vehicles are removed from street. This is to ensure that the whole street is cleared of debris from gutter to gutter. We ask residents NOT to sweep debris into the gutter whereas this could cause damage not only to the street sweeper but could possibly cause injury to bystanders. Please note vehicles are subject to towing during the ‘Clean-Sweep’. Schedule is on website, local newspapers and the new Connect Notification System.
In the winter months the Highway Division is responsible for snow and ice control on all accepted streets and roads. They also plow the Police and Fire stations, school parking lots, library and cemetery. Also, due to public safety, private ways are plowed for emergency vehicles to access.
