A snow emergency has been declared for the City of Medford effective at 8 AM tomorrow, Friday/February 8, 2013, until further notice. All posted snow emergency arteries must be clear of all motor vehicles. Those in violation will be ticketed and towed. The fine is $50.00 plus the cost of towing and storage. During a declared snow emergency, Odd/Even parking is in effect 24 hours a day. All vehicles on the side streets must be parked on the even side of the street unless otherwise previously exempted by the Traffic Commission. Those vehicles

In order to completely clear the streets for emergency vehicles to gain access, anyone found to be clearing property, shoveling, snow blowing or plowing into the street, will be fined a minimum of $50.00 for the violation. No person, vehicle, or object is to block or obstruct a snow plow by any means. “Our first priority is public safety”, said Mayor Michael J. McGlynn. There is no school in Medford tomorrow. Waste Management will begin collecting trash tomorrow at 6 AM, rather than 7 AM, and plans to finish their routes by 1 PM. The Senior Center is closed and the Medford Library will close at 12:30 PM. Meals on Wheels will be delivered as scheduled. Medford City Hall will close at 11:00 AM Friday.
“The snow will begin during the morning commute and all indications are that the snow will intensify between 2-3 PM. Friday night, there could be white out conditions, zero visibility and possible 5 foot drifts. There is also the possibility of hurricane force winds which could produce possible extensive and prolonged power outages. The storm’s intensity is expected to last into Saturday afternoon. It is my hope that people will realize the enormity of the situation and utilize patience as Medford’s DPW tries to clear streets and catch basins. Motorists are urged to stay off the roads if they can during the storm to allow snow plows to do their job”, said Mayor McGlynn.
All residents are encouraged to have flashlights, batteries, a portable radio, first aid kit, blankets, non perishable food items, and bottled water on hand, along with charged cell phones and computers (if applicable).
